How to Apply Lanoguard & Tips

Simple User Guide:

1. PREP - Clean the surface to be treated and remove any unsound surfaces (rust, flaking, laminating etc). A good jet-wash will usually do the trick, but wire brushing and wiping should be fine too!

Lanoguard is absolutely happy to be applied over sound and stable surface rust, as well as over previous underseal coatings or treatments. There is no need to mask up any rubbers or plastics, or to convert rust (though you can if you wish) and Lanoguard is fine on electrics, exhausts, engine bays etc. too. If you are applying Lanoguard to a very highly rusted vehicle, we sometimes recommend a two-step approach whereby you spray the whole underbody, leave it for two months to "seep" underneath the rust and push off the worst of the oxidation, and then repeat as normal with a regular Lanoguard treatment.

You can rent car ramps at some garages, so if you want to access your vehicle's underbody while standing and don’t already own ramps, this is a convenient option. Use Google to locate 'ramps for hire near you'.

2. APPLY THE GREASE - Apply Lanoguard Grease to any areas very vulnerable to high corrosion or seizing up. This includes weld seams, nuts and bolts, sharp edges, threads etc. The Grease is easiest to apply if slightly warmed and "brushed" on with a paintbrush, and it can be warmed up and cooled down as many times as you like. Our Grease works excellently as a build-grease and anti-seize grease, due to its non-evaporative properties. After application it's a great versatile product to leave in the garage/workshop for any future maintenance needs.

3. APPLY THE SPRAY - Use one of our trigger sprayer sets, or pressure sprayer applicators, to apply our Spray to the whole underbody, chassis, or areas you'd like to protect. Our Spray can be used on all metals, rubbers, plastics, electrical components etc. without worry. Just avoid brake discs and brake pads - everything else, spray away! Lanoguard Spray is very versatile too, and can be used anywhere you might want rust prevention, waterproofing, or lubrication. As well as being ideal for vehicle underbodies, it can be easily applied to boats, garden equipment, caravans, touring vehicles, and fundamentally - any machinery or vehicles prone to rust.

4. POST-TREATMENT - It's best to leave your vehicle or machinery at least 24 hours before use. Lanoguard will take up to a week to fully cure to a "candle-like" texture. Dry to the touch but you'll be able to feel it's there doing it's job. It never fully cures or dries, and this is a vital property to ensure it is non-evaporative and self-healing, meaning it won't crack or dry out leaving parts unprotected. Lanoguard typically lasts up to a year, so be sure to apply yearly to your vehicles/machinery to keep them in optimal condition. You can apply more often if you wish for an even stronger protection!

5. MULTI-PURPOSE - If you have any Lanoguard Moto Spray or Grease left you can use it up on some of your other belongings to extend their lifespan. Find out more here.

Top Troubleshooting Tips:

1. SUPER USEFUL COLD-WEATHER TIP from the Lanoguard user group, and please do take note: Please remember Lanoguard is thixotropic, so thicker when colder. To avoid blocking the trigger sprayer, be sure to keep the liquid warm before spraying and ideally whilst using too, i.e keep the bottle in a bucket of warm water whilst spraying.

2. If you're finding the grease difficult to apply, try gently heating it and 'painting' it on with a brush. Heat to hand hot water temperature to make it nice and thin.

3. If the trigger spray isn't spraying, unscrew it and ensure the hose pipe is pushed fully into the trigger gun. Sometimes it can get blocked up, so try spraying through with our removal liquid to clean it out.

Trigger sprayer troubleshooting

Here's some important info and tips to help you when using our trigger sprayers. A small number of customers have had issues with the sprayers, and we recognise the importance off the sprayer within the application process. We have tight controls on the manufacturing process to ensure best performance, however if you do have any issues we've produced this guide to assist you, and we'll be here to help troubleshoot with you too if needed.

USING YOUR TRIGGER SPRAYER

When spraying, adjust the end nozzle to several different settings to fit your spray type. A jet, a mist, or in between. Sometimes before spraying the nozzle is set to a closed position... so be sure to check this before use!
To prime the trigger sprayer, hold the trigger above the bottle height to prevent hydro-locking
It can often be best, especially in cold weather, to keep any spray bottles in warm water whilst you spray - as this allows the liquid to flow freely.

CARING FOR YOUR SPRAYER

After use, to prolong the life of your sprayer and keep it handy for future applications, you can follow these steps to clean it ready for storage:

Flush out the sprayer with warm water and a washing-up liquid - then flush through with clean water. Shake it dry, and hang it up.
If struggling to clean, it may be blocked. Try spraying a strong citrus or meths cleaner (or our Lanoguard Remover and Gun Wash) through to clear any blockages - or leave the sprayer in warm water for a few minutes to thin down any Lanoguard stuck inside.

FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING

Is the sprayer still not working for you? Follow these steps:

Ensure the hose tube is properly inserted into the trigger head.
Remove the small sieve filter from the end of the extension hose, we remove these before sending them out but sometimes they can be left on by mistake.
If the sprayer stops working, try immersing it in hand-hot water for a few minutes and spraying this hand hot water through the tubes to remove any blockages. You can also poke a pin into the spray nozzle to remove possible blockages.
